Review: Vicious Spirits (Gumiho #2) by Kat Cho

 Good morning Readers,

So I just finished reading Vicious Spirits from Kat Cho and I feel like I should tell you now, I am definitely in love with this series.  I love it so much that I could re-read it again immediately.  I rarely feel that way about any book or series.  Wicked Fox and Vicious Spirits are probably going to live on my shelves for a long time instead of meeting the to-go pile that I've been working on slowly.

Vicious Spirits continues the story shortly after where Wicked Fox concludes.  Miyoung has been able to survive and stay alive after not feeding on men for over 100 days, which is a good thing because it proves that she can lead a more human existence.  Unfortunately, after the death of Miyoung's mother, her fox bead is now missing and now there are spirits beginning to appear from the Between.  While this story does still revolve around Miyoung's fox bead and the issues surrounding her, this story focuses more on the relationship between other characters in the book, Lee Somin and the dobakaebbi Junu.

Somin and Junu have such a dynamic growth within their relationship.  It moves from Somin thinking she hates Junu, to wanting if there is more to Junu, to beginning to trust Junu, and then loving him enough to help protect from himself.  Junu also moves through a growth within his relationship to Somin.  He often protects himself using a defense mechanism of acting aloof and that he doesn't really care.  His exterior begins to soften and he slowly lets Somin in to let some of the most painful parts of himself and his existence as a human turned dokaebbi.  THIS PAIRING IS SO GOOD.

Overall, the Gumiho series was well written and I enjoyed the inclusion of the Korean language and folklore that was included throughout the books.  I devoured both of these books fairly quickly and while I kind of wish there were more books in the series, it definitely ends in the perfect spot.  I am looking forward to reading more from Kat Cho as she releases more narratives.
