Review: The Stand-In by Lily Chu

 Hi Readers,

Hope everyone is the last little bit of August before we start heading towards the fall months.  It feels like 2022 has sped by (and a little like we skipped some years in between).  But anyway...

Let's talk about The Stand-In by Lily Chu.  I saw this one recommended in some online groups that I participate in and I thought I would pick up when Target was having their book sale in July.  So this one hasn't been hanging on out my TBR very long in comparison to some of the other reads I have posted recently.

The Stand-In focuses on Gracie Reed, who is recently fired by a sleazeball boss and has an awesome penchant for to-do lists.  This firing throws a wrench in her plans to help her mother (who has Alzheimer's) move to a better assisted living facility.  But!  She is mistaken for actress Wei Fangli while out getting coffee, which leads her to the opportunity to act as Fangli's double for events and a way to earn the money to help her mother.  In order to be successful, she has to work with Fangli's partner Sam Yao to ensure that stepping into her shoes is as seamless as possible.

I really enjoy a well done swap story.  While this wasn't a full on swap between Gracie and Fangli, it lent itself to challenges of the story that if they were recognized it would cause issues for both.  Maybe it is more about an imposter in that case.  Either way, I enjoyed the twists and struggles that they went through on the journey to the end of the story.

5/5⭐
