July Bonus Read - Zatanna: The Jewel of the Gravesend

 

Hi Readers,

I had completely wrapped up my July rundown post when I realized I didn't add Zatanna: The Jewel of the Gravesend from Alys Arden.

This version of Zatanna is bright and colorful and immediately eye-catching.  This novel was a new retelling of Zatanna's origin story.  It was interesting to see how the character develops from just being the daughter of an illusionist to being the magic wielder herself.  By the end of the book, she embraces magic and who she has discovered herself to be.  

I really enjoyed Jacquelin de Leon's art throughout the graphic novel and the story itself was hard to put down.  I think if you are a Zatanna fan or interested in becoming a Zatanna fan, this is a fantastic entry.

I'm interested to see more thoughts on this one!
